It is a space life form carried by a meteorite that fell to earth in ancient times. It has many soft cells in its body and its fluids are toxic. It can cling to walls and ceilings with its sharp claws.
古代、地球に落ちたいん石によって運ばれてきた宇宙生命体だ。体にいくつものブヨブヨした細胞を持ち、その体液は有毒。鋭い爪で壁や天井にはりつくこともある。

It slithered around on its claw-like legs. It's not as formidable as it looks, except for the danger of its claws.
爪状の脚でのそのそと動き回る。不気味な見かけほどには手ごわくはない。しかし爪は危険だ。

Origin of the name / 名前の由来

The possible origin of it's name is "The Crimson Haybailer"(クロイツェルスポーツ / Kreuzer Sport), one of the cars in the anime "Wacky Races"(チキチキマシン猛レース). To the developers, this name sounded like "Groidel Sport"(グロイデルスポーツ).
It is not known how the English spelling became Gridel from the pronunciation of Groidel(グロイデル).
名前の由来になった可能性があるのは、アニメ「チキチキマシン猛レース」の出走車の一台「クロイツェルスポーツ」。
開発者にはこの名前が「クロイデルスポーツ」と聞こえていた。
グロイデルの発音から英語表記がGridelになった経緯は不明。

Note

In the MSX1, MSX2, FC, and NES versions, it looks like a cell, but in the MOBILE PHONE version, it has been changed to look like a flower petals.
MSX1, MSX2, FC, NES版では細胞のような見た目をしているが、携帯電話版では花弁のような見た目に変更されている。

The design is based on Osamu Tezuka's manga "Brunga I" and the "Balloon Monster barunga" from the science fiction monster drama "Ultra Q".
デザインの元ネタは手塚治虫の漫画「ブルンガ1世」とSF怪奇ドラマ「ウルトラQ」の「風船怪獣バルンガ」。
